

The Ladder in the Lilac Tree 2 Colin is the first to notice the approaching stranger. He is coming from the direction of the shops and he's dressed as though for a winter's day, despite the sultry heat. Colin suspects from the first that his destination is the railing to which Frank clings, but Frank himself seems oblivious to the man, and even when he glances up there is no suggestion in his expression or stance that he either recognises the stranger or guesses his purpose.
